Efficiency of mangrove and natural resources co-management model for coastal areas of Mekong Delta

Summary: Under impact of climate change, coastal erosion and mangrove degradation have caused enormous economic, social and environmental damage. Mangroves play a particularly important role in ensuring functions of protection, prevention of landslides, soil erosion, coastal erosion, sea dyke, ecological environment and life as well as livelihoods of coastal communities. Sustainable management and use of mangroves is considered one of many sustainable solutions. This paper analyzes effectiveness of the community-based mangrove management model in Au Tho B hamlet, Soc Trang province. Evaluation results show that the co-management model of mangrove forest protection and sustainable use of coastal wetlands has improved livelihoods for benefit of people associated with effective protection and restoration of mangroves.
